"Wordle" and "Clue" Game Shows In The Works
« on: October 07, 2025, 06:08:10 PM »
First, NBC has a pilot in the works for a game show based on Wordle, hosted by Savannah Guthrie and produced by Jimmy Fallon - https://deadline.com/2025/10/wordle-tv-series-jimmy-fallon-pilot-nbc-1236569567/

Second, Netflix has greenlit a reality-competition show based on Clue - http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2025/10/07/netflix-cracks-the-case-with-new-competition-series-clue-626114/20251007netflix03/

A Wordle game show would be a good idea if Lingo didn't already exist (could they sue?), and I fail to see how a Clue reality-competition show would ever be a good idea - several similar-sounding murder mystery reality-competition shows have already been tried.

Good luck, I guess? If either of these ends up actually happening, yes, I will check it out.

I thought there was potential to sue back when it was gaining traction, but maybe there's no precedent without the bingo part of the game.

I haven't see much of Traitors, but isn't that the general aesthetic of the show? If so, I get it.
Fun Fact To Make You Feel Old: Syndicated Jeopeardy has allowed champs to play until they lose longer than they've retired them after five days.

There was Whodunnit! on NBC back in the late 70s hosted by Ed McMahon.  It was based off of a UK game show by the same name.

The UK version aired for 5 years in short seasons over the summer...
NBC's version had only 4 episodes and it bombed (as with most NBC shows around that time).

It could go either way.  Likely the NBC path...

Considering the prior existence of Jotto (1956) and Word Mastermind (1972), among others, I think the Bingo part would be essential to claiming any infringement.
