Title: Music or No Music?
Post by: JayDLewis on December 23, 2005, 10:15:21 PM
Christmas is coming early to TGSF.

Unlike the Scrooges who hoard their themes and precious music like coal in the tinder box, I come to you with open MP3 players.

http://www.qwizx.com/gameshows (http://\"http://www.qwizx.com/gameshows\") (look for the link near the very top of the page)

Enjoy this with my compliments and my sincerest wishes that everyone on this board has a Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and Happy New Year!

Due to legal issues involving the online exchange of music, we can't let you link directly to music files, sorry. You may link to your own web page which contains music files -- that we have no problem with. Please repost with a link to a page, not directly to the music file.

Thanks,

Ebenezer Scrooge

Indeed, if ANYONE could provide a link to the page, rather than the files, it would be much appreciated.

Will this (http://\"http://golden-road.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=9566\") do until Jay can post up something more direct?

What is your policy with direct linking to video files?

As one might expect, the same as for music files.  We simply ask that you direct people from here to a webpage from which you can link to the appropriate files.  This shouldn't be hard.  There are not only legal issues but bandwidth issues as well.

Now this I don't get. I completely understand the legal issues, and of course, however you want to restrict this is your choice and that's fine; it's an easy rule to respect and I'm happy to do it. But, bandwidth? If I post another Pyramid clip, the bandwidth hit is exactly the same for you guys if I post the link to the file on my site here or if I post the link to my Downloads page here: pretty much zero. The site serving the file is the one who is going to bear the bandwidth load regardless. If that's not how Invision is treating it, then you guys are getting screwed.

Very Cool. Thanks! But as good as the American theme is I think the Australian version is better.

Right you are. The bw does not come out of our hide.

The first question we would ask is, "Who holds the copyright?". If it's your home movies, you hold the copyright and you may do with it as you please. If someone other than you holds the copyright then it's a different story. This has become a touchy subject in recent years thanks to the proliferation of online file swapping.

My apologies for dragging that erroneous element into the discussions.  I was under the impression that if people go directly from us to a massive-download file that it's counted against our usage.  Forget what I said, just focus on the legal angle.

I think the Latin phrase you're looking for is non sequitur.

Or that might be the one I was looking for.
