Title: If GSN Had a Primetime Movie
Post by: Jimmy Owen on December 29, 2004, 11:58:41 AM
Sure, "Quiz Show" but how about movies like "Caddyshack" or "Rocky"? Also, what kind of stories would make a good made-for-GSN TV-movie?

Hands down, Michael Larsen's story would.

As well, to go with their "Network for games" moniker....

Searching for Bobby Fischer
The Gong Show Movie
Dodgeball (once it goes through the pay channels and stuff)

Silly Topic, IMHO, but i'm replying anyways....guess i'm a silly guy!

"Happy Gilmore".

Now, for them to feasibly do this, they need at least 2 months worth before they can rerun the same garbage over and over.....So far, I see only 3 good movies...the rest are a REALLLLLLLLL stretch!

(But hey, once they put the Dream Derby on, that opens up the floodgates for all of the good horseracing movies!!! Seabiscuit? Easy Money? Black Stallion?)

Casino...nah, too much language, and USA seems to have a monopoly on that one. :-)

Honeymoon in Vegas maybe.

Swinger!:  The Matt Ottinger Story, with Brad Pitt playing the title character.

Matt, please make that blank check payable to "Cash".

Hmm...I thought Jeffrey Tambor would've been a better choice. (holds up blue card)

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Confessions of a Dangerous Mind yet, even though it's sorta referenced in fostergray's sig.

"Quiz Show"
"Champagne for Ceasar"
"The Running Man"
The movies where Ralph Edwards appeared with "T or C"
"How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" (one of the major plot twists hinge around a "Fortune Hunt" TV show sponsored by World Wide Widgets, the company where J. Pierpoint Finch is climbing up the corporate ladder)
"Three on a Date"
"The Cincinnati Kid" (Steve McQueen's a poker player, with Edward G. Robinson)

(Of course, I realize the older films are very unlikely, but...)

Well, we can add..."It Happened To Jane"...when Doris Day's character (yep. Jane)...appears on "I've got a Secret"..in color no less!

What would GSN think about putting Doris on in Primetime? Think about the demos!

There has to have been some movie called "The Better Sex"

And what was the movie where Rosie Perez was trying to get on Jeopardy!

Also...let's see, movies with game show hosts - not counting Groucho, of course.

Hey, they could run movies featuring Hal March, and call it Hal March Jackpot Night! (Hosted by ProfSteve)

For somewhat the same reason, how about Catch Me If You Can?  IIRC, the man Leonardo diCaprio played appeared on TTTT in real life.

BTW, someone (I forget who) mentioned that the clip of PYL shown in Jim Carrey's The Cable Guy was the best part of the whole film.  (If Dave Zinkin agrees, that's all I need to know to guess who his least favorite actor is.)

"Confessions" is a good one. I know GSN did a Gong Show marathon in honor of the movie's release.

BTW DrBear, the movie was "White Men Can't Jump." That's not a crack on the Caucasian population of this forum. ;-)

The Gong Show marathon GSN did was in 2001 for the Gong Show's 25th Gongiversary. They repeated it once or twice afterward.

(sigh)

Zach, you're missing the point (as usual). I was making note of the fact that a marathon was indeed done, in recognition of "Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind" being released, which was in January 2003. Whether or not it was a rerun of the 2001 marathon doesn't mean a damn thing to me. The fact remains, they did a marathon for "Confessions."

Of course, when has that ever stopped you?

"Everything You Wanted to know about Sex but were Afraid to Ask".  If I'm remembering this correclty, there's a scene in there with Jack Barry, on a show called "What's My Perversion".

Jack's the host and Regis Philbin's one of the panelists.

...and Robert Q. Lewis is the other male panelist.

Much attention was paid to detail in other ways; Robert Q. looks just the same as he does on The Name's the Same, and the jumpy monochrome picture effectively conveyed a Fifties ambience.

OBRealGS: Also featured in other vignettes of "...About Sex*" were Pyramid regulars Tony Randall and Lynn Redgrave, and Win Lose or Draw co-producer (co-exec?) Burt Reynolds.

Esoteric Eric; the second paragraph was going to be here, but wasn't someone griping about long sig lines?
