Title: Saturday night's alright for classics....
Post by: aaron sica on July 17, 2004, 08:34:09 PM
Looks as if some classics (nothing new from the vault though) are gracing GSN's schedule from 9pm-midnight (and then repeated accordingly)

All times EST

9pm Family Feud (Dawson)
9:30 Match Game ('70s)
10pm Lingo (an hour, but probably because of the "Games Across America" thing)
11pm Russian Roulette
11:30 Newlywed Game

This appears to be just for Saturday nights.

It ain't Dawson at 9PM/Midnight EST tonight. It's the Combs nighttime premiere episode from 9/19/88.

Which is good for me, since I never taped the Combs premiere to begin with.

Don't kill the messenger, Zach :) I'm just going by what GSN said on their website, which as I found out when I turned on GSN, was wrong-guh. Wrong-guh.

It really is a present surprise seeing some classic game shows back in primetime on GSN.  Even more of a surprise seeing Combs in primetime.  I've e-mailed GSN programming commending them on tonight's programming move.  If you are enjoying this lineup, please e-mail programming@gsn.com to let them know.  It sure can't hurt!

I did as you said!

Which version of the newlywed game will air? The 80s or 90s run will be disappointing, but the 78-80 run would be a pleasant surprise, and the 66-74 ABC run would be incredible.
I'm not the biggest newlywed game fan, but it would be nice to see the original.

You mean the '77-'80 version since TDG debuted in '78.

As I mentioned after your other post, I did e-mail to let them know how pleased I am about it, and would like to see it every night, not just weekends.

I'm happy with their weekend line-up, but I think they can do slightly better and still get their ratings, ahem:

8:00 Family Feud Challenge (or just any hour-long episode)
8:30 cont.
9:00 Match Game PM
9:30 "Best of Match Game" (any various extremely humorous classic episode)
10:00 Lingo
10:30 Russian Roulette
11:00 The Newlywed Game (66-74 or 77-80)
11:30 "Best of The Newlywed Game"  (From any run)

There, everyone's happy. Simply move blackjack to a different timeslot (Whichever one is bombing and must be replaced) and your satisfying GSN's new veiwers too.

Not the folks who watch "Games Across America."  Remember that GSN is cramming that in as well.

Well, last night wasn't necessarily bad.  It was about cheerleaders.

And how many times have they shown that one already? That's getting run into the ground more than the 1988-89 season of Wheel Of Fortune.

Running things into the ground could be much worse..Remember the "Junior Pyramid" episodes on Saturday mornings which seemed to run ad-nauseum?

Also from the Running Things Into the Ground Dept., the MG they showed last night was MGPM #1, which by my count has been shown 4 times in the last year.

No, that wasn't the first episode. It was more in the middle of season 1.

Whoops, you're right.  I saw the extra introductions of CNR, BS and Dawson at the beginning and said oh, that's MGPM #1.  But Gene did that throughout most of the first season of MGPM.

CNR wasn't on the episode aired on Saturday.  Gary Burgoff was sitting in for him.

I have the feeling that we won't be having that problem as of September--it seems to me that they would've made more "Games Across America" interstitials by now if it had really worked.

After GSN unwittingly dropped it from its schedule, I sure hope they've resurrected Match Game PM.

Only time will tell...

Time meaning 6 days ago.  It, as has already been mentioned six ways from Sunday in the thread, IS Match Game PM. (And FF is Combs).

Reading (the thread) can be your friend, kids..
