Title: Truth or Consequences Live in '81?
Post by: Blanquepage on November 19, 2022, 11:54:45 PM
I'm digitizing an episode of Blockbusters, and  Truth or Consequences was a Gold Run answer.
It was missed, and Bill mentioned that it must have made Bob Hilton unhappy, and that Bob was "taking it all across the country."
Definitely one of those "how did I never catch that" moments. Anyone know details about a traveling live production of it in 1981?
I doubt Bill was referring to Bob's one-season version.

Some quick Newspapers.com research confirms that Bob Hilton hosted a stage version for several years in the early to mid 80s and continued hosting occasional live shows in Truth or Consequences, NM, for years after that.

On top of that, Bob Barker did his own live show called "The Bob Barker Fun & Games Show" which was essentially "Truth or Consequences" in all but name.

Yes, and that was a HUGE sore spot with Ralph Edwards. There's the famous story of Bob Barker commemorating the anniversary of Ralph Edwards hiring him every year, but "The Bob Barker Fun & Games Show" caused a real rift between them that never fully healed.

Just found this while looking for videos of the '87 series - Bob Hilton hosting the Truth or Consequences Fiesta in 1999 (it says "Part 1", but the other two parts don't have Bob):
