Title: "Whose Baby?"
Post by: MikeK on May 30, 2022, 03:52:49 PM
While watching the Talk About marathon yesterday, I noticed Don Taffner's name in the credits.  (You might remember his name in association with Three's Company and Too Close for Comfort.)  Looking at Wiki, this appeared about a show called Whose Baby?:
In 1987, D.L. Taffner, Ltd. acquired the exclusive rights to the Thames Television game show Whose Baby? and would remake the show for an American audience.  There is a link to a blurb about it at https://worldradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Business/Magazines/Archive-BC-IDX/87-OCR/BC-1987-11-09-OCR-Page-0083.pdf (https://worldradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Business/Magazines/Archive-BC-IDX/87-OCR/BC-1987-11-09-OCR-Page-0083.pdf).  Among the information in the blurb is that Mark (Maxwell) Smith was producing Whose Baby?  He was the mind behind Talk About.

I'm curious if anybody has any more information about this.  I figure it got the kibosh due to a loaded syndication market.

Game Show Pilot Light has a page on it; seemed to be a pretty simple affair.

The title "Whose Baby?" inspires an idea for a spinoff:

The DNA Game.

Make up your own jokes.

Isn't that the Maury Povich show?

I’ve actually seen the pilot.  It was way better than Relatively Speaking—Norm was still at the top or his game as he was on Comedy Shop.  But the later got an advertiser behind it that bought their way in the air and DLT was a traditional sales company, so no go.
