Title: New-to-BUZZR episodes on or forthcoming
Post by: SRIV94 on August 09, 2021, 11:16:11 PM
BL has recommenced with new shows (evidently they started last Monday).  Also, CC starts new eps on 8/23 (the 6/16/89 and 6/19/89 eps).

Surprised they think itís worth the effort to keep premiering new episodes in that graveyard slot.

(I know, they were probably ready to air before it was shuffled off of Sunday evenings. I would hope thatís the case.)

If that's the case, then they certainly sat on them a while, considering that debuts have been as follows...

SU 12-06-2020: 74_0090 and 74_0091
SU 12-13-2020: 74_0092 and 74_0093
SU 12-20-2020: 74_0094 and 74_0096

SU 05-30-2021: 74_0097 and 74_0098
SU 06-06-2021: 74_0099 and 74_0100
SU 06-13-2021: 74_0101 and 74_0102
SU 06-20-2021: 74_0103 and 74_0104
SU 06-27-2021: 74_0105 and 74_0106
SU 07-04-2021: 74_0107 and 74_0108
SU 07-11-2021: 74_0109 and 74_0110
SU 07-18-2021: 74_0111 and 74_0112
SU 07-25-2021: 74_0113 and 74_0114
SU 08-01-2021: 74_0115 and 74_0116
SU 08-08-2021: 74_0117 and 74_0118
SU 08-15-2021: 74_0119 and 74_0120
SU 08-22-2021: 74_0121

None of the above were in the Sunday 10pm hour.

Well, the biggest items of note regarding the return of Whew!

9/5 - Whew! episodes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, & 7 in the debut mini-marathon starting @ 4pm
9/6 - Whew! takes the 4:30pm replacing Card Sharks beginning with episode #78...unfortunately we get less of Bill as Eubanks' CS will be moved to Blockbusters' current slot weekday mornings.

Which, someone else noted, brings us close to Randy's episodes from the get-go.

Assuming the only preemptions were for the monthly Magazine shows with Sharon Lovejoy, Randy's shows should be 87 and 88, correct?

Fresh Concentration starting 9/13, picking back up with episode 1194! TPiR looks to be still fresh on 9/18, too.

FYI according to TV Passport, weekday morning Body Language is getting replaced by more Card Sharks as of 9/27.
Schedules still aren't loaded on BUZZR's site, so we'll know which run sooner or later.

I hope some certain people don't see that and conclude that the network is going off the air.

OK, this is strange. They've left 9/20 as-is, and 9/21 to 9/26 are blank, but 9/27 is filled in from 6am onwards. Everything from 9/27 to 10/9 is live now. Go figure.

EDIT: Scratch that, everything's filled in now.

BUZZR Schedules for 9/20, 9/27 & 10/4 are now available!!
The Following will be continue to be refreshed:
Concentration
Classic Concentration
Supermarket Sweep
Match Game PM (until 9/23)
TPiR Cullen (until 9/25)
Shows being Refreshed:
Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour, starting 9/27 (we'll finally be reaching the ARLENE FRANCIS & CHUCK WOLLERY episodes! (even though one of them will be skipped!)
Skips
Classic Concentration:  Episodes 583, 595, 601
Match Game PM:  Episode 120
Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour:  Episodes 173-174 & 178.
Supermarket Sweep:  Episode 1519

According to this source, the MG/HS from the Francis/Woolery week to be skipped oddly enough is the one that's been in circulation amongst tape traders.  The one where Arlene Francis gets no questions, and where Gene calls out the Goodson HS format, pretty much.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason for the skip to begin with.

Well it was subtle enough for me not to realize it until a certain website mentioned it.  Casuals will not even know what he was talking about.

It's probably either a lost tape or content (even though they've aired other eps complete with bleep outs by Buzzr.  Then again there's some eps that apparently were too much for that to be the solution; the premiere episode, if the speculation is to be believed)

re: the above...

On last night's episode (perhaps the night before), Gene did have another moment where he complained about not knowing anything about the question's subject.  Can't remember the Q at the moment, however.

This week of MGHSH shows that, for all they couldn't get right, they could figure out they should use as much of Arsenio Hall as possible. From getting his name mispronounced in his first intro to being in the center square slot multiple times in a week is a nice little arc in this empty filler of a daytime show.

And we may have another before they were stars moment on MG/HS.

The current champion is John Cervenka.  Is this the same JC that would go on to become Burt Luddin?

/I totally knew the answer to that Loretta Lynn question.

New Match Game '77 starts on October 18 with episode 0951. Considering that the last "fresh" MG '77 episode they ran was 0944 (and seeing the celebrity listings for the following week), methinks they're holding 0946 to 0950 for Betty White Christmas.

I find it interesting that next week, Buzzr's "Super Duper Supermarket Sweep" promotion takes place only in the 9:00 Eastern/6:00 Pacific time slot. Based on next week's currently incomplete schedule, that time slot will contain earlier episodes (so far, from seasons 2 and 3) whose internal Buzzr numbers end with an A, presumably to mark them as special contest episodes. Meanwhile, the midnight Eastern/9:00 Pacific run continues with the new-to-Buzzr episodes from season 5.

Is this the first time that Buzzr has aired a different episode in each half anywhere in its prime time lineup?

I think they aired different episodes when they did the Alex Trebek tribute thing, and for a while around 2016-2017 the 11-to-2 block was one night behind 8-to-11, but it's extremely unusual for them.

Mark your calendars... Tuesday, October 26, we get the finale of MGHS, #191. This will be the first time they've "exhausted" a series (odd skips here and there notwithstanding), and only the third time they've hit a series finale (others being MG PM and LMAD '86).

Still just insanely wild to me that this show, in my lifetime, went from "got to see a bootleg VHS at a house after a game show convention" to "yeah, we aired the whole series on broadcast TV".

Yep.  Albeit missing an episode....oddly enough, the one on the trading circuit.

And yes, what a triad of years having access to the series, as it turns out, most of the entire series. Was this acquired before the Concentrations or after?

Anyway, I am one with fond memories of the series...watched it after school when in the first grade, the last year my family lived in our original house so it reminds me of my first neighborhood.  Silly as that sounds.  Perhaps that is why a LOT of TV from '83 or so has such sentimental value.

It was neat to see the stories shared on older discussion groups confirmed...where the $30K wins were.  The Christmas tree episode.  The HS board malfunctioning.  Round 3 being replaced by cheerleaders.

Crazy George?  Edie and Fred on schtick overload?  The NBC infomercialling?  Not so much.

Holding out that a future Lost and Found brings us the pilot episode.

After Trebek (October 2018), before Narz (March 2020). Debuted in February 2019 (marathon of the premiere week, minus the actual premiere itself), joined the regular lineup in September 2019.

Just to get ahead of any incorrect discussion: to say the shows were acquired would be misleading. Fremantle has had the tapes for years (if not always). Whatever part NBC still has in (Classic) Concentration and/or whatever part MGM still has in MGHSH was no doubt settled to make these airings happen.

Yes, and it was probably easier as it wasn't GSN (which had to negotiate between two companies rather than one, and apparently was not interested in airing all of the above).

The latter gives me hope that Fremantle's talks with MGM involved whatever remains of its game show content.

So now that MGHSH is ending its run of new-to-BUZZR episodes, and was generally lukewarmly received at best, whatís our collective best guess as to their future plans for the show? Does it remain a stalwart on the schedule? Or, do they start letting off the gas, then cut it loose when the current deal with MGM is up? Or something else?
