So during the 20-21 season ABC by itself will air 13 game shows!
Of the ten that aired so far Card Sharks was the lowest rated in both Total audience and 18-49.
Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Supermarket Sweep, who wants to be a Millionaire, and Match Game are left off renewals so far.
Wheel and Sweep based on ratings seem sure things probably in season and not summer. Again if Card Sharks is renewed the last two seem likely. Of course there could be a problem designing a new set to socially distance the 6 Celebrities on Match Game.
-
Surprised they are bringing back Teh Hustler. Much as I love CraigyFerg, he didn't really make up for there not being a whole lot of game there.
-
Woo-hoo, Pyramid's back. Yes!! I agree with Chuck that there might be a social distancing issue with Match Game. So The Hustler got renewed too. For game show fans, there's good news tonight.

I mentioned this before, but to me it's just not a fun game as an observer. It seems like it would be a dope party game, but as a game show not so much.

Fox also announced its summer plans today ...
https://deadline.com/2021/04/fox-summer-premiere-dates-rob-lowe-hosted-mental-samurai-lego-masters-will-arnett-beat-shazam-jamie-foxx-more-1234729685/
Of note ...
-- Season 2 of "Mental Samurai" has a two-hour premiere on May 25, then runs Tuesdays after "LEGO Masters"
-- Season 4 of "Beat Shazam," which has been in the Fox vault for more than a year (believe this was recorded pre-pandemic), premiers June 3.
Also, Joel McHale ("Card Sharks") pulls a Dick Clark and hosts two prime time shows on two networks at the same time with a cooking competition show that may ask the question -- what if Quibi's "Dishmantled" was an hour in length instead of five minutes?

They might have to use an MG2 setting for the panel, oddly enough. (I commented the new, separate CFF podiums already looked kinda like Just Men! and its setup)
EDITS:
Maybe even go back to 1998 and have only five panelists?
Does PYL separate the contestant podiums like Jeopardy! does? Or extend it like Wheel?
And Pyramid....plexiglass between the main game desks and Winner's Circle?

Don't didn't get picked up, so there won't be a Season 2...

Doesn't surprise me; while it was quite a goofy show, it was a tough pill to swallow.

To paraphrase Craig Ferguson from his former late night show, "It's a great day for game show fans in America."

So Don't Didn't, and it Doesn't. Got it.

Any news on which shows are looking for new contestants, or are they using last year's contestant pools? Have yet to see new info on the websites.

PYL and The Hustler are actively searching. Celebrity Dating Game already did its contestant call. Not sure on the rest, though.
-
I believe the other shows are either already in the can or (in the case of The Chase) taping currently.
-
I know someone who had an audition for The Chase last weekend, so if they're already taping that's a very quick turnaround from casting for a show that only needs 36-ish(?) contestants per season. I might have expected another week or two more for people to book their travel and accommodations, at a minimum.

I take that back, they may not be taping just yet, but parts of the production are underway at least, given all the news coverage about the writers striking.

Per Deadline, ABC has moved the returns of PYL and Pyramid up to May 26th, and pushed Card Sharks back a week to June 16th. No reason is given in the article.

The Card Sharks move is probably because ABC is airing the final two episodes of the season, if not the series (it has not been renewed yet), of A Million Little Things on 6/9.
-
Over on Twitter, Chad Mosher revealed a new bonus space in PYL.
Take The Lead + One Spin

Really? It is what it says.
/perhaps in 2022 the player will be seated on couches.
//whoops, read that as reviewed. It will certainly make a random game random-Er.

May not be for the summer, but Supermarket Sweep and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune have been renewed...

Considering all the reality shows ABC renewed today, it is probably bad news for Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Noticeably absent from the list of shows renewed so far - The Bachelor.

They're probably waiting to see what happens with Bachelor host Chris Harrison.

Such as what, exactly? He didn’t commit a crime.

ABC just picked up A Million Little Things for a second season, which puts the question, "Then why bother with airing the last two episodes back-to-back?" back on the table.

He stepped away from the show due to a controversy involving one of the Bachelors having a racist past.

Per tvline.com: The Beast, Mark Labbett will be joining the tag team of masterminds for Season 2 of ABC's The Chase

Crime Scene Kitchen is on Fox, so maybe too much McHale?

It'll still be airing on Wednesdays, so I don't know. I was just talking with friends about not knowing an instance where a person hosted two programs on different broadcast networks on the same night. I feel like its something that probably happened in the 50s.

Matt O can confirm, but Bill Cullen might have hosted TPIR on NBC and then over to CBS for IGAS panelist

Most definitely that was the case. In the 1958-59 season on Wednesday nights Price was at 8:30pm and IGAS was at 9:30pm. Bill would have to get from the Colonial Theatre on 66th to CBS Studio 59 (Brooks Atkinson Theater) on 47th as soon as Price was over.

I believe more than one season $100,000 pyramid ran into football season.so Micharl Strahan as one of the hosts of the fox post game and pyramid.
Of course you said same "night", but both Dick Clark and Wsyne Brady had hosting jobs on different networks on the same "day"
