Title: LA Paley Closing the Museum
Post by: mmb5 on December 21, 2019, 07:30:12 PM
The entity will still exist, and there will still be PaleyFests and other events, there will just be no more museum to go to.  I would like to place an opening bid on the tapes of $10.

Sadly, not a surprise in multiple regards- the last time I dropped by, it was virtually empty, and the PaleyFest events for quite some time have had little to do with the history of television (this being a family website, I will hold my tongue commenting on what it is).

I am curious involving their plans for their archive- they weren't exactly acting fast dubbing their tapes for digital presentation inside the Paley Center, so an online presence doesn't feel particularly likely.

I'm guessing it will all be housed in New York now. That location doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I visited back in November just before Thanksgiving. Talking with one of the employees, my friend and I were told that they had recently moved the tapes they had off-site to somewhere else in town that would essentially double or triple the wait time for a request for any. Didn't realize at the time it meant that the end was coming sooner rather than later for the location. This is very disappointing.

There's no official word on this, but that friend and I emailed that employee about pulling tapes for future viewing in January. We were told however that their last day of operations in that location would January 6th, with the library/exhibits ceasing the previous day the 5th. Guess the end was coming sooner than sooner.

Disappointing to say the least.
