As 2019 starts to wind down, it's time once again to run through what were the biggest game and reality-competition show highlights of the year.
Of course, we all know who holds two of them, but there were others that come to mind:
The reboots of Press Your Luck and Card Sharks with Elizabeth Banks and Joel McHale respectively
Split Second (1986) and -- after gathering 35 years of dust in Fremantle's vaults -- Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour added to the Buzzr lineup
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (U.S.) ending after 20 years
The return of Supermarket Sweep U.K. on ITV (while Leslie Jones is tapped to do the new stateside version sometime in 2020)
"Dancing With The Stars" becoming "The Sean Spicer Show" for a good part of the season
Wheel of Fortune becomes "Vanna Takes The Wheel" while Pat Sajak underwent emergency surgery
The passings of Charles Van Doren, Robert "Bob-O" Essig, Rudy Boesch (Survivor Season 1 contestant), Rip Taylor, Phyllis Newman, and our own David Downs
Michael Stouber winning $262,743 (including $202,000 in Million Dollar Plinko) during Big Money Week, making him the biggest winner in daytime TPIR history...and also shattering Mort Kamins' network daytime winnings record of $249,982 that stood for 36 years!!!
Any others I missed?

I'm presuming you're referring to James Holzhauer and Alex Trebek?

*ahem* ;D
Hey, second time I get to do this!

Also, Cullen and his "Cuties" on the Original Price Is Right come to BUZZR. Speaking of which, the way BUZZR goes through Price lately, we may be getting to the ABC installments sooner than we thought.
The passings of Charles Van Doren, Robert "Bob-O" Essig, Rudy Boesch (Survivor Season 1 contestant), Rip Taylor, Phyllis Newman, and our own David Downs
Plus, Jimmy Nelson (Come Closer), Jack Whitaker (The Face Is Familiar), Robert Earle (G.E. College Bowl -- second host), Arte Johnson (Knockout); among many others.
Any others I missed?
The Winkster making his first-ever Daytime Emmy appearance. That would have been a whole lot better if he had gotten the Lifetime Achievement honor.
Cordially,
Tammy

And back to the PYL reboot: It was the only good thing Elizabeth Banks did this year (her Charlie’s Angels, on the other hand, was total ass)!

Isn't that the point?

Oh, and there was also LMAD’s Wayne Brady performing as the Fox on The Masked Singer (which many of us called it right from the first set of clues).
-
Did we? Or was that just you?

And for someone who was all about girl power....why no Tammy Whammette shorts on the new PYL? Actually, I think they CUT Tammy's part out of one of the vintage remakes. ;-)

Did we? Or was that just you?
If you were watching and studying the clues very carefully all throughout, yes.

"What's a Tammy Whammette?" (beat) "Who's Tammy Wynette?"
-Average 18-34 year-old
I doubt they get what any of that refers to.

Eephus.

No, we're all pretty sure it was just you.

I haven't really seen Masked Singer, but what I've read was that many thought the Fox was Jamie Foxx, not Wayne Brady.
-
But 2019 was The Masked Singer’s year; there were international versions in Australia (with Lindsay Lohan as one of the judges!), France, and Mexico with more to come in other countries including the UK in 2020...and this comes 20 years after Who Wants To Be A Millionaire became a global phenomenon itself!
/Is Regis Philbin too old to give it a shot anyway?
-
What does it all MEAN?
-
The (apparent) ending of Snoop Dogg Presents The Joker's Wild and the debut of the John Cena-hosted Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? on Nickelodeon (still no word about its fate as well).

And back again to The Masked Singer: Can you imagine Larry Emdur, Bert Newton, or Tony Barber doing the Aussie version (which has been renewed)?
/Ian Turpie would’ve been PERFECT if he was with us today!

Furbies.

We get it, John. You know the names of several Australian game show hosts.
This discussion was over well before Christmas. No one was waiting for you to start it again.
