Title: Recording from online?
Post by: cyclone45 on September 05, 2019, 12:20:17 AM
Is there any way to record shows from the online stream? I have directv and don't have time to watch everything live.

I'm probably going to regret jumping in this foxhole, but I thought DVR was pretty much standard with DirecTV these days.

Except that directv doesn't have BUZZR yet. Otherwise it'd be easy:) GSN, yes

There's a whole thread about it here: http://www.gameshowforum.org/index.php/topic,30972.0.html

If you can get DirecTV to send you a Local Channel Connector kit (which they'll generally send out only if you currently have a local station pulled due to a contract dispute, and which requires an HR44 or HR54 model DVR), and you can get a Buzzr affiliate over-the-air at your location... then this is what Buzzr looks like on DirecTV.

No contract disputes here, sadly. At least I tried. Thanks for the info though! I like Pluto and all...the DVR thing is just beyond my  technological scope. I have to ask my aunt or dad to hook stuff up!

Hey all, bumping this thread with a service I found called FitzyTV. Was digging deeper for a service because with this 9/30 schedule change, Buzzr will have some new stuff I'd love to watch but I need to DVR it.

https://fitzytv.com/ (found via a review at TechHive https://www.techhive.com/article/3405540/fitzytv-review.html)

I'm not sure of the overall point of the app...I downloaded it to a spare Android phone, and it syncs with my existing TV subscriptions to enable some sort of Cloud DVR functionality.

The killer feature here is that they have Buzzr as a channel on the app, and you can pay them $5/mo to get 50 DVR hours, and it seems to allow you to record Buzzr.

I downloaded it but haven't had much of a chance to test - wanted to alert the group, because I haven't seen it mentioned here before. If you try it, please provide a review, and I'll do the same once I've given it some paces.

I look forward to hearing how this works out for you.  I am in the same boat, and would like to have a recording option before 9/30.

I can’t figure out why BUZZR is on Dish, but not DirecTV

AT&T probably wants too much money to carry the channel.

Probably doesn't help matters that AT&T owns a minority stake in GSN.

So for fun, I decided to give this a trial run.  One issue I have run into is that there currently isn’t a way to start your recording a few minutes early, and run it over.  As we all know, Buzzr runs a few minutes ahead of schedule.  I emailed support and they are now aware of this and will add a feature request to modify the start times of recordings.  Not sure when that will happen, but for now you will have to record the program before and after the one you intended to record to be able to get everything.

Thank you both for this info. I’ve been reading a bit about Fitzy, but I was thinking it was mainly a DVR for subscription-ish services without built-in DVR capability, such as Locast.

Am I understanding you correctly that it actually has some channels within the app—BUZZR being one of them—and that you can DVR it even if you’re in a market without an OTA BUZZR station? (If so, that’s awesome.)

There are about 21 different channels, including Buzzr.  So yes, you can DVR it without an OTA station.

Can you DVR it from an Andrid app? Smart TV remote isnt working at the moment.

I have directv for channels, the smart TV is for the 4k, hd

Okay, I have the app on my phone, just wish I could link the credit card i have on my phone to the app to get the dcr...

Definitely looks better than the Buzzr site.

Yes, Fitzy looks good...I spent a half hour playing with it on my Android TV and was totally unsuccessful in getting anything set up. I'm going to give it another try on the phone. Wondering if anyone who has tried it has had luck. I'd gladly pay them $5 a month if it does what it says it does.

It works for me on my Amazon Fire stick.  I don’t have an Android phone or tablet, so I can’t test anything there.

Yes, I'll amend my earlier review that I got this to work on my Android phone. I have a janky made-in-China Android TV box that does most things well, but it doesn't display the Fitzy app properly, hiding some of the show-by-show options.

The only thing it lacks is a proper programming guide. I was only able to go a few hours into the future. So when the new schedule starts on 9/30, I'll probably need to babysit the app that day to make sure the good new stuff gets marked to record.

Haven't tried it on my Fire Stick yet. I run a Roku on my main TV, mainly because we have YouTube TV and the Fire platform doesn't have a YouTube TV app yet. Hopefully that is coming soon, because I actually prefer the Fire platform over the way the Roku is set up.

I can’t figure out why BUZZR is on Dish, but not DirecTV

DirecTV does not carry "diginets" such as Buzzr and Me-TV. I wish they did.

It actually depends on the market - in at least two cities (New York City and Philly), MeTV is on its own channel which is carried by DirecTV.
