We're into the final weeks of 2017, which is a good time to go over what were the biggest game show highlights of the year. A few that come to mind are:
Jeopardy! becoming The Austin Rogers Show
New records shattered on TPIR with $31,500 won in Plinko and $80,000 in the Showcase Showdown (plus the debut of Gridlock)
Name That Tune returning...as Beat Shazam on Fox (and Jamie Foxx becoming the first Oscar winner to ever host a game show)
The returns of The Gong Show (starring Mike Myers as Tommy Maitland), Love Connection, The Joker's Wild, and Battle of the Network Stars
American Idol heading to ABC in 2018
Celebrity Big Brother US being announced, also for 2018
The passings of Chuck Barris, Monty (and Marilyn) Hall, John Harlan, Bruce Forsyth, Chris Bearde, and Merrill Heatter
FremantleMedia acquiring Supermarket Sweep, which may return in 2018 as well
SOMEWHAT RELATED: Meghan Markle -- who started out on Deal or No Deal as one of the suitcase ladies -- engaged to Prince Harry
The "Bachelor in Paradise" scandal
And what I thought was the biggest lowlight...
The stink bomb known as "Candy Crush"!!!!

I didn't see it mentioned around here, but a lowlight was the $1 million loss on WOF. I felt sorry for them. (In fact, I believe there has not been a $100K winner this year, as well.)

Also, The Life (And Wife) of Allen Ludden or It's More Than Password. (finished my copy.) Not to mention Don Morrow's long-awaited How About A Martini?. (Am reading my copy of that one as we speak.)
One more tidbit: the RetroTV channel sacked Merv Griffin's Crosswords; which is a moot point where I live. My Cox Cable service replaced RetroTV on channel 13 with what they call the "News Now" channel (replays of local news reports from my ABC and FOX affiliates in Santa Barbara).
