So Steve Harvey's not busy enough. Pyramid is the show I'm most looking forward to. My friend has applied to be a contestant. They should be announcing their taping schedule in NYC soon.

I'm a little surprised by the order of the shows on Sunday. To me, Pyramid feels more like an 8:00 or a 9:00 show, whereas given the subject matter of some of the questions on Feud, that feels more like a 9:00 or a 10:00 show.

Still, I hope it all does well, as success here means more game shows for everybody.

So Match Game is a spring/fall dealy now probably?

I feel silly bumping, but if this article is anything to go by, The Gong Show is to be hosted by a fictional character.

Call me crazy, but my expectations are not high.

Fictional?  Tommy's a legend, you cheeky monkey.  I'm just disappointed than no episodes of Dingos Got The Baby survive.  Australians were even worse than we were in preserving their shows.

Seriously, why the hell not?  At least let them show us what they're going to do and THEN you can put it down.  Decent list of (real) celebrities are committed to it, and Arnett seems pretty passionate about the project.  I'm more interested now than I was before.

The joke in that it's Mike Myers went over my head, and I was ready to rag on it. But honestly, the idea of him playing a washed-up British comedian sounds like such a "Gong Show" concept. I'm actually intrigued and getting Martin Short as Jiminy Glick vibes.

I am very intrigued by Mike Mye.... er, Tommy Maitland hosting the show.  Much more than Paul Reubens YDKJ character.

Very interesting. Myers is certainly chameleon-like enough to slip into a role without people recognizing him, and can be very funny when he tries.

But...that's IF he tries. Considering the Shrek franchise has essentially dried up, and his last live-action project, 2008's The Love Guru, was an atrocious flop...he may just be phoning it in to cash a check here. I'd really love to be proven wrong, though.

They've announced the matchups for Celeb Feud...

A lot more "groups" this year (MLB Legends vs NBA Legends, Boy Band vs Girl Group, Funny Guys vs Funny Girls, US Swim Team vs US Gymnastics Team, etc.)- and Louie Anderson is playing with his family.

Being his tenure ended in controversy, I do wonder whether anyone brings up that Louie hosted the first three seasons of the current run?

/I also wonder how many bags of money they had to give Louie to come back?

Something I just realized...Steve has Celebrity Feud and this Funderdome show on ABC. He hosts Little Big Shots on NBC, and I believe he's reviving his Showtime at the Apollo hosting duties for FOX.

Outside of maybe Dick Clark with Pyramid, Bloopers, and Bandstand, I can't recall anyone else hosting three or more network shows on as many networks simultaneously.

I read that just like that flood and "Dream House" (which was a very serious loss), a fire forever wiped out "Dingos Got The Baby", which I understand lasted a happy two weeks in 1972 and in black-and-white, three years before color TV would finally hit Australia.

All kidding aside...I think Chuck Barris, Chris Bearde, and Gary Owens up above -- and Don Bleu, who is still alive -- will be delighted at the new Gong Show, with Mike Myers channeling his Paul Reubens' Troy Stevens. But Jennifer Aniston as one of the judges? Her film career has been down the tubes in recent years, so why not!

I had little reason to believe this, so I did a little checking. Some of her movies in recent years were Horrible Bosses 2, Storks, and Office Christmas Party. They all did very well at the box office. Dunno where you got that idea, but it's not true.

Shhh, Brandon!  He's showing off his vast knowledge of the serious loss of "Dream House", "A Dingo Ate My Babeh", when color TV was introduced to Australia, and the downfall of the once-mighty Aniston.

I thought I had heard once that Arthur Godfrey did. (If I'm right, I heard it on American Top 40 after Godfrey's death in 1983.) His IMDb file doesn't support the claim, however.

Godfrey was pretty much a CBS host.  I think he did three shows for the one network at the same time.  Maybe a Bert Parks or Bud Collyer from the early days of TV
Art Linkletter had House Party on CBS and People are Funny on NBC.  The First incarnation on Life with Linkletter may have been on ABC.

As long as we're compiling short lists, we can add Louie to the short list of hosts who have competed on their own show. I can think of Dick Clark, Bill Cullen, and Bert Convy (I think he played Tattletales at least once). Meredith Vieira could count even though it wasn't her show until later.

According to Brooks and Marsh, he had three series in prime time on CBS during April through June of 1950: Arthur Godfrey and His Friends on Wednesdays, Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts on Mondays, and Arthur Godfrey and His Ukulele on Tuesdays and (depending on what point in the run) Thursdays or Fridays. He also was doing Arthur Godfrey Time as a Monday through Friday program, but that was still radio only at that point.

I bet there are more of these than you might think.  Allen Ludden played Password at least a couple of weeks in the seventies, once with Monty Hall assuming host duties and another (I think) with Betty White doing the honors.  He typically played against Elizabeth Montgomery, at the time considered to be the best celebrity player.

Alex Trebek played Jeopardy in the Art Fleming era.

For Hollywood Squares, John Davidson was frequently on the Peter Marshall version, Marshall appeared on Bergeron's show, and Bergeron "played" one episode of that week in the center square while Marshall hosted.

Did he? I contacted the Library of Congress a while back for their assistance in some research I was doing for a Buzzerblog article (http://www.buzzerblog.com/2016/03/21/5-things-only-jeopardy-super-fans-know/), and they told us they had no record of Alex playing the game, but it did appear that he did a couple of walk-ons to promote High Rollers and/or Wizard Of Odds.

A researcher of solid reputation sent me some notes he found years ago which seemed to indicate Trebek played in a celebrity game around the time of Wizard of Odds.  I imagine that it's possible we both misunderstood the information and that it was just a walk-on.  When I get home I'll look at the notes again.

Fred Wostbrock was 100% positive that Alex did play the game and that he had seen some kind of record that a photographer had been in the studio that day. He did some work about five years ago for NBC and actually put it in writing that he'd wave all of his fees if somebody at NBC could locate the photo for him but they couldn't find one.

So the spirit of the original, with loads of appeal to nostalgia, just not network vs network, and not dependent on contemporary stars.

Cautiously optimistic still.  I still think there has to be an element of "big stars goofing around" for this to really work, and if this turns out to be third-tier celebrities they found at an autograph convention who agreed because they need the paycheck, I think we'll all be disappointed.

Are there big stars on networks these days? Running it 10 weeks in a row rather than once or twice a year diminishes it, too. The original had the guise of seriousness. The best moment was when Gabe Kaplan and Robert Conrad nearly came to blows. The bigger than life Cosell made it seem like a big thing.

I'd rather Match Game got the time slots.

I think this might depend on what you consider a "big star". I mean, the Kardashians are probably considered some of the biggest stars in Hollywood*, but if they could get the caliber of celebrities that Pyramid or Match Game are getting, I wouldn't cry foul.

The bigger question, IMO, is will the teams have the same camaraderie from the 70s and 80s? Remembering the clip you mentioned, the network teams took the competition very seriously, while at the same time realizing it was all in fun. But when Gabe won that event, it was a big friggin' deal.

If we get a bunch of overproduced, manufactured drama, complete with a team member crying on the sidelines and "confession room" segments, I'll pass.

*/Trust me, it hurt having to type that with a straight face

In a bit of a interesting development, 8 episodes of Funderdome were leaked by the same group who leaked Orange is the New Black episodes a couple of months ago...
