Title: Split
Post by: Jimmy Owen on June 25, 2003, 09:07:33 PM
Anybody see this show from the beginning of the run?  I don't ever recall the wood-grain set in some photographs I have seen (including the TV Guide ad when the show debuted and EOTVGS.)  Only got to see it during summer vacation and by that time it was the orange set.  I'm wondering if those pics were from a pilot or the regular show.

I think it's fairly safe to assume that they were from the pilot set, mainly because that's what many shows used for their original promo shots.  That, or shots outside of the set (see Potato, Hot)

Matt, that picture of Bill up to his neck in potatoes has got to be the best publicity photo of all time!  Still willing to do anything to promote the show, even at age 63.

I didn't feel like leeching your bandwidth, and I figured most people would have looked for your page and found the picture, but you made it easier and just pointed them to it...

The 1973 publicity still for The $10,000 Pyramid with Dick Clark holding a triangular pyramid with a handwritten $10,000 was, for example, probably done because there was only 7-1/2 weeks between the pilot taping (for Cash on the Line) to the premiere of The $10,000 Pyramid.

Were any pictures of the $1 Mil/$100k Pyramid pilots from 2000 used as publicity? They had a different(ish) set, didn't they?

Right before Sony backed out in 2001, I remember seeing a pic of Donny and a team at the Winner's Circle, and on the monitors was a \"$100,000 Pyramid\" logo.

Also, last year at ATGS, I distributed an print ad, which featured the entire set (mainly blocked by text). The set looked a bit darker than now.

For the syndicated $25,000 Pyramid, I have seen a couple of pictures where Bill Cullen was also holding a pyramid, though with the show's logo on it. The aforementioned Ottinger site ( http://userdata.acd.net/ottinger/Cullen/sh...ows/25kpyr.html (http://\"http://userdata.acd.net/ottinger/Cullen/shows/25kpyr.html\") ) has one of the pictures.
