Title: Beat The Chefs gone till November
Post by: xavier45 on September 19, 2012, 06:33:39 PM
That was fast. The online schedule shows that Beat The Chefs has been taken off of GSN as of tomorrow night. Taking its spot will be a new episode of The Pyramid at 9pm and a rerun episode at 9:30pm. The show wasn't bombing, getting over 300,000 viewers every week. But it looks like they want to keep some more of that 900,000 they get with Bible Challenge. Buzzerblog sent out a tweet that Chefs will return in November. My guess is a burnoff marathon on Thanksgiving.

300k isn't "bombing"? Does that show up as a rating point or portion of a point in the book, or is that a hash mark?

By GSN standards, no, it isn't.

Obviously it wasn't good enough for them or the show would still be on the schedule, wouldn't it?

Really not seeing why you think this is a point worth debating.  300,000 is decent by GSN's low standards, but following the enormous (again, relative) numbers produced by Bible Baffle, they're hoping to do better with something else.  Pretty much what the OP said.

Pretty much what the OP said.
The OP didn't really say anything that wasn't evident from the numbers, which was my point. Why else do you can something besides "not enough people were watching it"? Of course they want to retain the audience from Bible Challenge, that's the point of programming. I was hoping that the one-man Buzzerblog press arm was going to give us something more substantive than what we got.

Hearing Beat the Chefs will be back in November but we'll see.  Its numbers are at the level GSN has usually canceled shows.  They canceled Lingo 2011 and 1 VS 100 for the same amount, and what makes this even worse is it's losing 2/3rd of its lead in, and that's obviously a gigantic strike against it.  But I think you're going to see that with practically every show that's not Steve Harvey's Feud.  Curious to see how Pyramid did after Bible Challenge, though.  I can't see it doing any better.  I don't think any show beyond Feud will do well out of it.  Bible Challenge has its devoted group and the second that it ends they turn the channel.  It's not the network's typical audience.

I'm also hearing Pyramid is in limbo right now.  It's also at 1 VS 100/Lingo 2011 levels and neither of those came back.  If we go by past trends, it's going to be both very, very close and because they have nothing else to air.  It's actually following the same exact pattern that Challenge's revival of Blockbusters had.  Incredibly good start with incredibly good numbers but they take a nose dive a week or two after once people realize it's the same show they stopped watching a decade ago.  To be captain obvious for a moment, it'll just depend how the rest of its run goes and how much ineptitude viewers can take.  They've clearly front loaded the show to have the better games first and the awful ones later (watch out for Nick Turturro, it's brutal).  A lot of that is going to depend on how much people can tollerate celebrities getting next to nothing, or literally nothing, from the Circle.

Edit: Like two minutes ago numbers for September 10-16 came out.  Pyramid averaged 336,000 in its 6:00PM debut slot.  Beat the Chefs 9PM debut slot was 330,000.

Again, what else would you like me to say? I gave the information that is flying around the internet. I added my 2 cents, and that's the end of it. No need to nitpick over my posts and start namecalling.

I speak only for myself, but I for one would like you to back off a little on simply quoting Buzzerblog, since Alex is a user here and is perfectly capable of promoting himself, and if I wanted to read his site, I am completely aware it exists and can do so.

If you've got some ideas of your own to add to whatever you're posting, great (credit where it's due: you did this time when you suggested the Thanksgiving burn-off), but 95% of the time it's just more of "Buzzerblog said this." Is that against the rules? Nope, not at all. But some of us find it irritating.

Like Chris said, I'd like you to provide something besides what we can see for ourselves if we choose to point our browser to Buzzerblog. With rare exception, your posts start with "Per Buzzerblog," and then just rehash what Alex has written. If I'm going to read what you say, I'd like an opinion, an insight, something more than what I can find elsewhere.

Well I was wrong.  Pyramid did far, far better than Beat the Chefs post-Bible Challenge.  545K viewers.  Still about a 50% drop from Bible Challenge's 917K, but it's way more impressive than what Chefs put up after its first week which was inflated because of Bible's close-to-two-million rating.  And, again, at least half the specific audience of Bible is pretty much always going to turn the channel after it's over.  18th highest rated cable show on Thursday and the change was only made two days before it went into effect, so that has to look pretty good for Pyramid and pretty bad for Chefs.

Quite possibly they will (hey, for some, it's probably bedtime!), but I have to think that "Pyramid" would be a better follow to "Bible Challenge" than something with a lot of faux-smuttiness like "Newlywed" or the backbiting snark of a "Survivor" or its ilk would provide.  For that matter, the "hey, new episodes of that show I liked when I was a kid" card might play very nicely.

Good luck, Mike-and-the-gang!

Not relevant to this thread, but every time I see the last three words in the post title, I can't help but think of this guy... (http://"http://www.vinylvendors.com/Pictures/f/u/fugees416130.jpg") :-P

Carry on.

One man Buzzerblog press arm. If it wasn't meant as an insult, fine. Mea Culpa.

Whether I meant it as an insult is immaterial. The fact that you took a descriptive sentence as an insult says more about you than it does me.

Good God. Not everyone visits every game show website and gets every bit of information. If he wants to post a news bulletin for others who may not have seen it, let him. Not  everything needs to devolve into a giant debate.

Thank you. I'm done with this little roundabout with Mr. Eberle.

To be honest, if sourcing Buzzerblog too often is the worst thing one is guilty of, then he or she is perfectly all right in my book. I say this as someone who gets BB updates on Facebook, so I'm probably getting a double dose of information here. I really don't get all the ruckus on this one.
