Title: new GSN "feast of favorites" promo
Post by: zachhoran on November 12, 2003, 11:01:38 AM
The new GSN Feast of Favorites promo shows clips from Lingo, Whammy, and one or two other originals, plus Feud and $20K PYRAMID!!. Whether that means $20K Pyramid will be shown on Thanksgiving is unknown at this time.

We'll that promo sounds a little more exciting than the other one.  Maybe we will see some 20k Pyramid.  Who knows?  I guess we'll see soon enough though.

I feel like the Brain when it appears that one of his plans to take over the world is going to work.  I have a feeling it won't work out any better for me, though.  GSN has at least some history of using shows in a promo that aren't part of the actual event.

They showed Bullseye, BTC, and J! last year. None of them showed up on the countdown.

I read somewhere that the $10,000 Pyramid has only one episode still in existance. I could be wrong about that.

GSN has shown Twelve $10,000 Pyramid's alone, the other 3 shows (1 from Duncan/Asner, two from Feldon/Schuck) *should* at least be there, so that's 15, plus one ep from elsewhere in 1973 that exists on the trade circuit.

That's a minimum of 16 eps that exist, at the very least.

Well, If my memory isn't failing me, I remember in last years feast post voting promo, there was a clip of Bullseye inserted, yet it didn't make the top 12.

Something I've always wondered about:  for the episodes which exist on the trade curcuit, a lot of them came from studio masters.  Surely GSN must have them as well (for the shows they have rights to) -- it would seem strange to me if the studio master existed ONLY in the trade curcuit.

As if you have documented scientifically-researched proof that television viewers outside of the 300 of us that subscribe here are demanding to see Barry & Enright shows of the late 70s and 80s again.

I sometimes see one of us being in Rich Cronin or Bob Boden's position and doing a sales pitch to ad agency media buyers--and using as our big draw to get them to throw some money GSN's way "and we're going to start airing 'Bullseye' and 'Play the Percentages' every night in prime time!  Those were cool shows!  And then we're going to air 'Chain Reaction' and 'Pass the Buck!'"  The derisive laughter among the media buyers would be deafening.

If networks gave viewers what they want nowadays, we've have 200 channels' worth of test patterns.  Today's GSN is what advertisers think viewers want.

I don't think media buyers know the difference between "Bullseye," "Aliens Ate My Game Show," "Chain Reaction" and "Billboard Living."  They only want the shows that will get their advertisers noticed.  A good pitch by GSN can make any show attractive.

OK, I'll admit that I left my Sarcasm Detector at home today, but this is the second time in this thread where I'm going, "Huh?"

That statement appears to say you think viewers do, in fact, want 200 channels of test patterns, and advertisers have come to the rescue to give us something other than that.  I know that's not what you meant, but I can't find the irony, satire, sarcasm, humor or whatever it was you thought you were putting into that statement.

Should we read anything into the promos?  If that's the case, it looks like it will consist of the following:

Whammy
Joker's Wild
Match Game
Pyramid
Cram
Russian Roulette
Friend or Foe
Family Feud

plus four others.

Would GSN use those shows in the promo if they weren't going to be part of the "feast"?

An early 70s LMAD clip was among those classic shows seen in the ads. You can read into it what you will, but clips of Bullseye were shown in last year's ads and we didn't see that one make the top 12. It would behoove GSN to make next year's Feast of Favorites an all day event, and show the top 30 or so picks from 9AM-Midnight(the number would have to be lowered if RObinson Weakest Link or Twenty One made the cut, as all episodes of those two shows are an hour long). This would made it more likely for us to see lesser known or at least lesser seen-on-GSN shows.

This was posted on the GSN boards.  Supposedly it's showing on the schedule for the 26th (the day before).  Might be a typo for the date or just a total ruse altogether, but this is what's shown:

12:00 Greed
1:00 Russian Roulette
2:00 Let's Make a Deal
3:00 Who Wants to be a Millionaire
4:00 Press Your Luck
5:00 The Joker's Wild
6:00 To be determined (?)
7:00 Friend or Foe
8:00 Family Feud
9:00 Whammy
10:00 Lingo
11:00 Match Game

Oy. Yes, it IS showing for Thanksgiving. So GSN just wasn't going to wait this time for the viewers to be in suspense? That just spoils everything.

If this is the case, then the only mystery is the identity of favorite #6.

...oh well.

[EDIT: The GSN online schedule is now "To Be Determined" for the whole marathon. The above schedule however was indeed up, as I saw it with muh own eyes. Maybe someone thought it'd be a cute joke? Who knows. We'll see on Thanksgiving.]

I almost became one of the youngest people ever to die of euphoria-induced heart attack when I saw that on the schedule. Silly GSN.

The shows you have on your list are not 100% accurate by any means. There was a person testing our scheduling system when that information was pulled.

We had to see about having shows in the schedule that are not interactive and how they show up on the interactive window.

The test were supposed to be done on the development server but the person was new and screwed up.

I love it....."The Ricker" blasts someone for calling Boden and Cronin "idiots", but entirely ignores the completely valid point of TJW (possibly) being on the FoF for two years on a row,  but not anywhere on the regular schedule.

Whoever noted that they should have an announce board w/o reply access is on the money...
