Title: Bob Eubanks returning to The Newlywed Game..
Post by: xavier45 on October 10, 2009, 11:48:16 PM
According to Buzzerblog (http://\"http://buzzerblog.flashgameshows.com/bob-eubanks-to-host-final-newlywed-game-of-season-on-gsn/\"), Bob Eubanks will be taking the hosting duties coming up on the final episode of The Newlywed Game's Second season.

I am pretty sure this is a record for someone hosting at least one episode of the same Game Show for 5 decades in a row. Is that right?

My first thought was that Monty beat him to it by appearing on Billy Bush's LMAD in 2003.  Although, you specified hosting an episode, and Monty only did a few deals.

You might be right.

I wonder if Bob will be hosting just part of the show (with Carnie hosting the rest), or the entire episode. Either way, that should be interesting.

I've not seen anything about this further.

I was wondering if Randy West or someone else connected to the production could let us know tape and airdate for Bob's return?

If the episode doesn't air until at least January, wouldn't it be noted as Eubanks' 6th decade in hosting TNG???

Randy would know for sure, since he is the announcer

No, because the last year of a decade is the one that ends in 0.

Yes, and the millenium didn't start until 2001, etc.  I've been tooting this horn for some time, but even I'm starting to buckle under the weight of popular usage.  Sad day...

I'm absolutely with you on the "new millennium" issue (spelling notwithstanding), but I just as firmly believe decades are another matter.  No one refers to "the third decade of the 20th century".  Instead, we call it "the twenties," and no one could rationally suggest that "the twenties" go from 1921 to 1930.  Here, I think popular usage trumps calendar logic.

Believe me, I'd normally be right with you two on This Kind Of Thing(tm), but in this case...
No, because the last year of a decade is the one that ends in 0.
This would be true if the basic concept of "decade" lined up with "century" and "millennium" -- if we referred to, for example, "the 10th decade of the 20th century," which would be 1991-2000.

However, what we actually refer to is, for example, "the 1990s," which is literally the years that begin with "199," i.e., 1990-1999.

Thus, we're about to enter a new decade, the 2010s, and if Bob appears in 2010, it can correctly be said that he has appeared as host of "The Newlywed Game" in six decades:  the 1960s, the 1970s, the 1980s, the 1990s, the 2000s, and the 2010s.

Of course, "six decades" cannot be equated with "60 years" in this case -- there, there's your sticklerness.

Edited: See, that's what I get for going into much more detail than Matt.  If I hosted "Quizbusters," each episode would be 3 hours long.

And the show would be all the better for it, I'm sure.

Any bets that Monty Hall will "fill-in" for at least one of Wayne Brady's shows in 2010 so he can clinch 6 decades as well???

Looks like Wayne and crew are taped well ahead, so, maybe Spring at earliest before this airs?

Assuming episode #100 is true, the airdate doesn't have anything at all to do with how far ahead Wayne and crew tape their shows.  Barring reruns and preemptions, episode #100 will be the Friday episode of the 20th week the show is on the air, regardless of the production schedule.

Right, but I didn't want people to think the airdate to set their dvr's is anytime soon. Point well taken.

The episode will be airing on January 7th. Bob will host, Carnie, her sister Wendy, and their mother Marilyn, along with their husbands will serve as the contestants.

Bumping this to continue the "six decades" discussion. When did Eubanks host the show in the 2000s? Didn't the previous incarnation end in 1997?

First run up until 1999. However, the show was rerun during the 1999-2000 season.

I guess you could say if he taped it last year, he did host it in consecutive decades.  When it aired may be beside the point.

Good point, Jimmy. And the program was recorded in 2009, meaning his shows were filmed in the 1960s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.
So if he tapes another before The '10s are done, that'd get him in the six-decade club for the same show.

He's baaaaaack.

According to our good friend Randy West, Bob Eubanks is hosting another episode of the Newlywed Game for the upcoming season three of the show. This time, though, the featured couples are the husband and wife pairs of three favorite classic game show hosts - Monty and Marilyn Hall, Peter and Laurie Marshall and Wink and Sandy Martindale!
