Title: Stu's Show on Halloween
Post by: BMaurice06 on October 27, 2007, 10:45:48 PM
Hopefully, I'm the first to pass this news on to y'all:

This week on Stu's Show, our own favorite Perfesser Steve Beverly gives his take on the year in game shows.

I know it's a shameless plug, but he happens to be my favorite TV analyst.

Yer entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine.

Wow.

That was my reaction too, until I was reminded that both BMaurice06 and Steve worship at the altar of Newton.

I commend you both on having reactions that are repeatable on a family message board. Because I assure you mine was not.

I'm a little insulted.

Me too. I mean, the correction doesn't work grammatically--you need a noun there, not an adjective.

(Well, okay, that word can be used as a noun in one way, but that's too horrible to contemplate.)

I, too, am insulted by the implementation. The sentiment, however, is spot-on.

For some reason, you have a serious problem accepting the fact that not everyone shares or agrees with your opinion. You need to get over that.

Sidenote: so where might I be able to tune in to Stu's radio show?  Not this week, but in the future.

I listened to Beverly's weekly rant for the first time last week regarding Mo Money Password among other things.  I fell asleep about 5 minutes into it.

What I thought and what I typed were two completely different things, even though they mean the exact same thing. :)

Why's this? Your opinion is not widely held around here, and I'm curious to know why the people who like him, like him, or those who can tolerate him can do so.

Oh, I think you'll find more than a few people around here who can tolerate him — certainly I'd put myself in that category.  Perhaps my experience has been colored from having seen far worse, but for all his offenses to basic standards of journalism and his stunts like deliberately hiding his role in a WWTBAM contestant's loss (for those who weren't in ATGS at the time, Steve discussed the loss in one of his columns and deliberately omitted his own role as the Phone-a-Friend who provided the wrong answer), he's not exactly evil, he does want to see game shows succeed and he is knowledgeable -- not to the extent that he seems to think he is, to be sure (see: Dick Clark and WWTBAM), but knowledgeable nonetheless.

All that said, the "our own favorite" thing is, of course, laughable.  Either Mr. Hayes (aka BMaurice06) really does think that Steve has been widely lauded on this board — in which case Mr. Hayes is too busy worshipping Todd Newton to pay attention to what really goes on here — or he's insisting that everyone should share his opinion and considering it a personal affront that they don't, in which case Mr. Hayes has a severe case of Gsnboarditis.

Well, when you name someone who's generally regarded as a goof as "your favorite TV analyst," you kinda have to expect that to happen.

Or it was sarcasm.

(Yes, considering the OP himself called him "Perfesser" without any clue that it was a pejorative term (I know, strikethrough "that it was a pejorative term," fixed that for me) I don't think it was either, but it should be thrown out there as an option.)

Perhaps a modest amplification to the correction will aid with the grammar.
An example might be if you were to say "favorite TV anal blast".
Not that I think he is necessarily, but I'm just making a helpful suggestion with the sentence structure.
I've got high school volleyball tournament play-by-play duty tomorrow PM so I'll be unable to give Stosh a ring.
If one or more of you calls him, tell him hi for me. And ask him if he'll say GSN: The Network For Games.
