Title: Next Week on Password Plus...........
Post by: xavier45 on April 11, 2007, 02:11:51 PM
Well Monday on Password Plus will be the first of 4 weeks hosted by Bill Cullen. If anyone does not know, Allen left because he had to have Stomach Surgery for Cancer. But he would return 4 weeks later, and host for another 25 weeks until he would leave for good in October 1980.

Thanks ever so much for the heads-up.  Now I'll just extend my TiVo pass for Blockbusters by an extra half-hour, and I'll get 'em both!  It's the Cullen Hour!

For Blockbuster fans, the finale airs in about a week and a half. We're into Rich Jeffries (blehh), doing the announcing.

Gives me a reason to set up the spare DVD recorder on the 3rd floor to finally get all 20 episodes of Cullen's tenure. Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, and a member of the GSN boards also said that Scrabble is destroyed.

Can you either provide a link, or can someone else confirm this?

I just watched the tape--Ludden did say, "Day #4," which would imply that it was the Thursday show.  And a quick check of my tape of yesterday shows they did indeed skip an ep (they had just brought a new contestant on to play a game in yesterday's rerun, but today's started with Alphabetics).

Which is not my point.

Josh stated that he read on the GSN board that someone else said this thing about P+. Mark then questioned the veracity of the GSN board and asked for a more reliable source.

Now, whether Josh feels like he has to justify himself to Mark is an entire other issue and completely his own choice. But if he IS going to do it, going with "And here's what the questioned source said!" is not the best strategy to take.

Understood completely.  And you're right.

But if one is looking for corroboration that what was said was indeed correct, then consider it corroborated.

Hell of a game between San Jose and Nashville, isn't it?

I've said it before and I will say it again: the GSN board is not, by itself, a legitimate source for any information whatsoever.  Far too often, posts known to be false have been allowed to stay, while people who have tried, even politely, to correct the false information have been suspended or banned.  And the official policy as stated by one of GSN's moderators is that if you disagree with something, you're not to answer.

Now, if a poster with a known, long track record of getting things right happens to post something there, feel free to cite it, but do so because of the poster's reputation, not because of where it was posted.  If a programming change was mentioned there and you saw the same change mentioned on a GSN promo or in a GSN press release (or, for that matter, in a reputable media outlet such as Broadcasting & Cable, Multichannel News or TV Week), the same holds.  But "I saw it on the GSN board" is not enough to meet Eligibility Requirement #7 (http://\"http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/index.php?act=boardrules\"), no matter how much you may like the poster in question.

And before anyone asks again, one's post count -- here or there -- does not determine one's credibility either, for better or worse.

David, please let it be known I'm not one of these "types" you refer to that post false or misleading information at the board. Also, let it be known I would only say the site is a source when I am 100% sure that the person posting it is correct (The person who said it is a HUGE Password Plus fan, and really is working hard at starting a website on it). Also, I'm usually one of the types that are correcting false information on there. So basically, if you're going to see me quote someone from there, you'll know that I'm 100% sure they're correct. No hard feelings, si? :)

Who are the first two guests on during Cullen's stay? And another question, is Betty White a guest during Cullen's stint? Maybe we'll hear here say something about Ludden.

Hasn't GSN skipped over the Wednesday episode of that week during past runs of the series? I'm not one for idle speculation, but could that episode be missing?

So what? Adam Kleist was a "huge" Family Feud fan and yet he came here and started a thread stating Ray Combs was bipolar.

I'd think a Ray Combs being "bipolar" thread is a little different from a thread stating when Bill Cullen's run at Password Plus begins...

Mark made a good point: being a huge fan of a show and starting a web site on it are not, in and of themselves, measures of one's credibility.  I also should note that Mark's example of Adam Kleist and Family Feud was more relevant than Mark likely realized; not only was Adam obsessed with Feud, he was working on his own Feud site.

So no, there are no hard feelings.  We're just saying that you need to be careful with your sources, that's all -- especially when you're citing someone whose name most of us may not recognize.

Damn straight!

Password Plus was a nice fit for Bill.  The pace was relaxed enough to let him have his fun (though he played it fairly straight on day one), but he didn't run off with the proceedings the way Convy was criticized for doing with Super Password.  It was, truth be told, probably a better fit for Bill than Blockbusters was, since the knock he gets on that show was that his occasional flights of fancy got in the way of the hard-quiz format.

And every now and then, I've been informed that he continues to claim that he was banned from here and from Golden-Road because you and Lemon didn't like him, rather than because of anything he actually said or did.

It never ceases to amaze me that some people keep making the same mistakes over and over again, get criticized for it over and over again, and never, ever manage to really make the connection between the two sets of events.  I can't begin to fathom what it must be like to go through life like that.

(Please note that I said "amaze" and not "surprise."  I wasn't the least bit shocked, but it's mind-boggling nonetheless.)

Well, I am enjoying Bill on Password Plus.

Two things on todays episode:

First, Bill Plugged Chain Reaction, which he was doing at the time on NBC (same as password plus).

Also, We got to hear Johnny O's Voice at the end since GSN left in some fee plugs. Kudos GSN!!

And now Ludden's back from the four weeks off (Cullen was booked as one of the celebs, with Susan Richardson as the other)--these eps started yesterday (Friday).  This was a fun week.

The week after it with Bert Convy and Phyllis Diller was also interesting (at least for me, most of you probably wouldn't care about this), as the last four shows are predominantly un-McKenzied.  That should start up next Friday.

Look for signs of an edit when Phyllis plays Alphabetics. She froze up during a round of Alphabetics, and the game was reset and the show edited.

The first show of the week might sound a little heavy on the Mackenzie. Between shows, Bobby Sherman had a discussion with the audience sweetening engineer. As a result of that discussion, the engineer refused to do his job any further that day. It shows what wonderful crews we had at NBC. Some of those people are better off out of the business than in it.

Well, I was wrong.  It aired today instead.  And indeed today was very heavy on the McKenzie (the rest of the shows should be almost dead quiet by comparison).

It's funny how GSN is rerunning Phyllis Diller's 1/88 SP appearance concurrently (and if memory serves, the same prinicpals involved in that discussion were both on duty that taping).

I assume the guy was putting in Paul Lynde laughs on every mildly witty remark, "oohs" every time Ludden mentioned a champion's total, an "awww" on every time the word was not given, crowd shouting on the option and a "YAHOO!" on every sustained applause, among other things.  Correct?

OK, I skimmed through the tapes.  Phyllis played Alphabetics once in these three shows, and it came right after a commercial break.  I thought I detected an edit when the first word ("attorney") appeared and Ludden asked if she had her clues ready.  Other than that, I didn't notice anything overly obvious (which I guess is a credit to NBC's video tape editors if that was her only playing of the week).

For the record, Phyllis communicated five of the words successfully, netting the contestant $500.
