I know it's now shipping on nbc.com, but has anyone spotted it at Target or KMart or anywhere else?

At Kmart at least, we have the UPCs on file for the board game and dvd game. Nothing is even available for us to order from the district warehouse, so I gather it's just taking a long time to release. Just for kicks, the dvd game and board game will be $19.99 each at Kmart and $18.54 for the dvd from Wal-Mart.

The dvd game will be released in mid-July. I'll try and post a review of the board game if and when I get it at work.

There is a DoND card game by Cardinal on sale at K-B Toys for $9.99. The game is made by Cardinal but not mentioned on the company website. I found it at the NBC store website and there in the description is the word "imported." The packaging says it's a card game for one or more players. The game is packaged in a little metal briefcase.

I was in Toys R Us today, and they had ad flyers by the entrance door, picturing the DOND board game, and saying "expected in store by 7/10."  The store I was in DID NOT have it, but I've heard some stores do.

In the TRU clearance section were Pressman's Jeopardy (Original Edition), and Wheel of Fortune Second Edition for $8.99 each.   The Jeopardy game is in a smaller size box than when originally released, and the game board does NOT have the logo at the top, in order to fit it in smaller box.   They've also reduced fourth edition Password to around $6.

I can confirm that.  The TRU near me had both the briefcase-looking card game and the box game today.

No chance I'm gonna buy, but it was nice to take a look.

Fully realizing (and enjoying) your joke, I did notice that Couric's children's book was on sale at 50% off.  And as a matter of fact, they do have a graveyard of leftover items from cancelled shows.  Anybody want an Ed coffee mug?

The last time I was in the city, the NBC gift shop was a relatively modest little place.  Now it's this multi-level monstrosity they call the NBC Experience, located -- not surprisingly -- right next to the courtyard where the yokels wave at the Today cameras.  I'm not immune from tourism -- my wife now has Scrubs scrubs and I love my little peacock beanie baby -- but it was disappointing to see Rockefeller Center turning into Times Square.

I really miss that show. Not just because I went to high school with the guy who played Ed's best friend, but because it was a genuinely good show.

On a slightly related tip, in doing a little Web searching this morning I came across the rules for the DoND card game, the one in the whimsical little replica briefcase. Here it is, in a nutshell:

1) Deal out the Cash Cards, cover each with a numbered Briefcase Card.
2) "Open" briefcases as usual. (I'm gonna guess that providing your own "whooshing" sound effects are optional.) Mark off "opened" cases on a specially printed scorepad.
3) When Bank Offer time comes, draw a card from the Bank Offer deck, and receive a completely random offer, no matter what point in the game you are at or what dollar values you've left laying, between $400 and $400,000.

Can you say "friggin' broken"?

(That said, as a collector's item, I'll probably snag one when they're in the $2.99 clearance pile at We B Toyz or on Amazon.com. I'm guessing sometime after this Christmas.)

Every time I see another one of these megastores opening in NYC (see Cube, Big Glass Apple), I can't help but think that for all of their perception and posturing that they are the Center Of The Known Universe, the Big Apple has the biggest case of Small Dick Syndrome I've ever seen.

Based on recent experiences with mass-market produced games, I'm NOT AT ALL sure they thought of this. In doing it that way they have produced a completely idiotic game. Even if you're NOT a hardcore gamer you have to figure out that this is a completely idiotic game.

Really, the board game (at least the one that Van Ginkel reviewed on his site) where each player rotates as the Banker and makes the offers out of his own pocket, is at least tenuously interesting. But this is stupid.

Yep.

The NBC Studio Tour used to be quite a gem - before they pimped it up with crosspromotion....weather with Al Roker! Ride Conan's Desk! Date Joey! all for 24.95.

Then again, shame on our moderator for coming to NYC and not letting some of the east coast contigent know. 'I' would have met him and bought him a $14 beer at the Olive Garden.

I was in Toys R Us in Council Bluffs, IA tonight (Friday) and they had the
DOND Board Game for $19.99, and the card game for $9.99.  I didn't
see the DVD game-wasn't really sure where they'd put that... with the
DVDs, the XBox stuff, the board games... would like to hear more about
it before buying/ordering it.

I took a look at the card game and it is well worth waiting until Christmas clearance or until it ends up being given free with a box of Golden Grahams, not unlike the WWTBAM first edition pc game was.
If you're really into pseudo-steel cases, then by all means, pick it up.
Otherwise, you probably should skip it.
With only random chances at what an offer would be and 10 offer cards or so, it's reallycheaply done. Granted, there is a handy pad with the DoND moneytree so you can keep score with what's gone, etc.
That would be worth tossing in with the board game at a later date.

To quote someone else in this thread that I probably should properly quote:

The card game is "broken".

I still have to take some pics for the board game version. It is really well done for what's included.
Moneyboard, instructions, little but still nicelysized briefcase pouches and decent quality case value cards.

I modified mine as the cards kept slipping out before I wanted to do a reveal.
It was a minor problem with an easy solution.

I tossed a $2 calculator into the box for the not-so-mathistically inclined (i.e. me) for the bank offers.

Pictures of the parts and mods are coming soon.

Also, still no word on the dvd game hitting anywhere in my area yet. At least anywhere but my local TRU.

The UPCs are still there for where I work, but my store hasn't received the board game at all. None are even on order but it shows that it can be.

I am happy that the TRU is 1 mile from work. Picked the game up on my lunch break. They had 36 board versions and a metric crapload of the card game.

As promised, a quick and dirty DoND home game review thingy now begins.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea...al/boxfront.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/boxfront.jpg\")

For the box contents:

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea...al/contents.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/contents.jpg\")

First, the moneytree:

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea.../standfront.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/standfront.jpg\")

The value covers for mine were smoky, not blue, unlike depicted on the box. The back does say "colors may vary", however.

The moneytree rests on a flat surface with this stand:
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea...odeal/stand.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/stand.jpg\")

There's a pile of money for the multiplayer version.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea...pileofmoney.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/pileofmoney.jpg\")

You even get a $0.01 paper token for the chump games, too.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea...eal/onecent.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/onecent.jpg\")

Short version: each player gets a certain amount of money to risk in their game. The others open the cases and the main player can either pay to guess and win what is revealed in each successive round, case by case, or not. If you were to pay the fee and correctly guess that the $100,000 is in the next case you've chosen, you win $100,000 from the bank as a bonus, of sorts.

There are 2 wildcards for the multiplayer game: $750 and $0.01. If the $0.01 is revealed, the host wins the pile of money fees, the "kitty." $750 card revealed nets the player who is the case opener wins the kitty. The rules are more clearly explained with the pamphlet but it's not a bad concept. The rest of the game remains the same.

There are 26 money cards, just like the tv version. The cards are a bit flashier than the tv ones, but suitable and glossy.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea...millioncard.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/millioncard.jpg\")

They fit right into the oversized briefcase pouches.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea...al/opencase.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/opencase.jpg\")

I taped one side of it for maximum effect in revealing case values. That and the damn cards tend to fall out. They are that slick.

The 26 cases, seen here:
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea...odeal/cases.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/cases.jpg\")

There's no set banker forumla but the guideline is the total money values left of the board divided by the number of unopened cases. I wrote a cheat sheet for my pamphlet so the bank offers don't take forever. There's also a suggestion for negotiating bank offers as well.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dea.../cheatsheet.jpg (http://\"http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Dealornodeal/cheatsheet.jpg\")

I have yet to play the multiplayer version. As far as one-on-one games, I had no problem getting a game finished in about 10 minutes.

That isn't exactly the formula. However, if you goto my site you can download a "Deal Calculator" which will give you a bank offer (it's up to you to round up or down to whatever offer you want to make).

Sorry for pimping my site again, but I figure that if the homegames don't tell you how to calculate a "proper" offer, you may as well have some help.

[/quote]

Not true.  I called the Toys R Us in Merrillville, IN earlier this evening and was confirming if they had the DVD game.  It's currently in-stock and selling for $19.99.

(EDIT:  Turns out that they misunderstood what I asked for.  They have the Pressman board game available for $19.99.  Decided to take a pass for the time being, but that's still a good deal.  They also had the card game mentioned below.  Both of them looked like they were selling quite fast.)

I did pick up the briefcase card game today at the mall I work in for $12.99.  I know the reviews haven't been satisfactory, but I still wanted to pick it up for the hell's sake.  But to tell you how popular the game is around here, the game hasn't been out very long and they've nearly went through three shipments of them!  Each shipment, according to the manager, had 18 units in it.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that if it isn't at your Toys R Us yet, I'd imagine it should be in this upcoming week.

My local TRU had none of the board games in stock, they said they sold through them like wildfire. They told me they did get a shipment that day, but only received the card games. I picked up the card game for $9.99. The cashier, when she told me my total, said "Deal or No Deal"?
I'm not playing by the rules they give you (being that they are so flawed), and I'm using Jay Lewis' awesome bank offer software to calculate offers (so I pretty much threw out the bank offer cards with it). I'll pick up the board game later.

No, I really don't think it was. The guy's said he bought the card game, which we've already established sucks ass, and then is ignoring half of it, leaving him with a deck of cards with dollar amounts from $.01 to $1,000,000, and a second deck numbered 1 to 26. And THEN he announced his intent to buy that AGAIN, in a slightly different form.

There's a word for someone like that, and that word is also a synonym for "lollipop".

Well, that's fair. The vibe I got from your post was that you bought the card game only because the board game was out of stock at the time. If your intention all along was to get both for collecting purposes, that's a different matter entirely and more power to you.

(But if you're gonna do that, you have to be completist and get both electronic versions too, right? :))
