« on: October 03, 2017, 10:58:04 AM »
Decades TV will be airing a two hour block of classic game shows on October 19th at 2 PM EST.  In order they are airing People Are Funny, Beat The Clock, & Truth Or Consequences.   It looks like this is a one off.

Thanks for pointing this out.  Looks like they'll also be airing You Bet Your Life on 10/16 and Do You Trust Your Wife on 10/30.

Public domain episodes?

Yes.  I doubt it's being promoted as such, but October appears to be "Public Domain Month" over at Decades.  Pop culture author Bob O'Brien has been tracking the schedule all month, excitedly pointing out obscure sitcoms and other novelties, some of which don't appear to have even made their way to cheapie DVD collections.

My guess is that there won't be anything earth-shattering on the game show front.  The titles that have been mentioned have been part of public domain DVD collections in the past, and the individual episodes are likely to be those shows.  Still, it's a neat stunt, and I imagine the great majority of their audience (heck, probably the great majority of this group) doesn't have those DVD collections.

They're promoting it as Lost TV Month, which I have to say is pretty ingenious. I have access to Decades' schedules for the whole month. Here's how the game show content breaks down in Eastern time. Pay no mind to the episode numbers, except to use it as an indicator of when they're repeating an episode or showing a different one.

October 16:
2PM You Bet Your Life #01 - Hand
2:30 You Bet Your Life #02 - Head
3PM You Bet Your Life #03 - Chair
3:30 You Bet Your Life #04 - Clock
-----
1AM You Bet Your Life #05 - House
1:30 You Bet Your Life #06 - Voice
2AM You Bet Your Life #07 - Door
2:30 You Bet Your Life #08 - Food

October 19:
2PM People are Funny #101 - featuring John Wayne
2:30 Beat the Clock #101
3PM Truth or Consequences #101
(3:30 on this date is The Liberace Show)
-----
1AM People are Funny #102 - featuring Hal Ashby
1:30 Beat the Clock #102
2AM: Truth or Consequences #101
(2:30 on this date is The Liberace Show)

October 30:
2PM Do You Trust Your Wife #101 - March 27, 1956
2:30 Do You Trust Your Wife #102 - Undated episode from 1956
----
1AM Do You Trust Your Wife #101 - March 27, 1956
1:30 Do You Trust Your Wife #102 - Undated episode from 1956

The 70s director?  That seems rather random.

From a biography available on the Internet Archive:

"In the mid-1950s, Ashby himself made an appearance on
a popular television show hosted by Art Linkletter called People Are
Funny, a precursor to reality television that got its contestants to perform
outrageous or zany stunts for the audience's amusement. According to
Box, Ashby was given a relatively appealing task: the show sent flowers,
chocolates, and other love offerings from "Your secret admirer" (i.e.,
Ashby) to an unsuspecting girl, and Ashby's mission was simply to bring
her back to the show, which he succeeded in doing."

BTW, I've been checking some public domain sites and DVD collections, and while I can find one People Are Funny with John Wayne seen VERY briefly in a film clip, I can't find any with the bit described in the Hal Ashby bio.  There's a Truth or Consequences with Jack Bailey as host floating around in the PD netherworld, plus of course the daytime episode introducing Bob Barker to the world survives.  So maybe some of these will be "new" and maybe not.  I hope someone who gets Decades can let the rest of us know what ends up airing.

While not a game show, it's interesting to see the Goodson-Todman logo at the end of the episodes of "One Happy Family" that Decades is running this week.

Late bump, I admit, but:

Decades repeated the two People Are Funny episodes tonight. The Ashby one is, indeed, as described in the biography- the other one centers on the round-the-world adventures of a Roger Dollerhide (is that the circulating one, or not?)

On Friday, they are scheduled to air one episode of Truth or Consequences, two episodes of Do You Trust Your Wife?, and one episode of Beat The Clock- I assume those are repeats as well (I was on the road in October and missed the original airings), but I'll let you know what the contents are if I have a chance to watch.

Sounds like this one:

But again, I can't find the Hal Ashby episode in these public domain bins, so it's possible that one was "new".
