Shoping Casino any one remember this?

Does anybody remember a infomercial done like a gameshow called Shoping Casino? It aired in the late 80's.

I was only recently exposed to Shopper's Casino for the first time. Somebody REALLY needs to get this show on YouTube. All discussions of Worst Game Show Ever would be so much simpler. I can't speak for everyone, but to argue competently produced shows that were dull as The Worst, when a turkey like Casino exists, which may rank as one of the worst shows in the *medium of television*...we need more people to see this thing. :)

I guess, it was such a train wreck, that parts did entertain me in a sadistic way. No verbal explanation or commentary I read before really did it justice. Watching the episode I saw, you could make a case they only had one tape available to record the show. The rules were bad, the props were bad, the lighting and camerawork were bad, the "call in" contestants were ridiculously phony...

It certainly sounds awful, was it any worse then "Temptation"?

I'm not razzing you because you're new, but...

Temptation may raise the ire of people for changing the wrong things about $ale of the Century, but it certainly wasn't as ponderous as 100% or PlayMania in my opinion, and nowhere near the throne of worst game show. Another for instance: You may not have liked the drum-machine-heavy-theme or dance club-esque set, but I doubt Family Feud with Louie Anderson is in serious contention for Worst Ever.

Whereas Temptation still played a basic quiz game that wasn't screwed up, Shopper's Casino asked virtual strangers (since the show made little effort to use their personality) to play a hand of blackjack for "chips" equal to the value of a chotchke. Except you couldn't see the hand that well, since it was being shot on a handheld camera located to the side of the action. There was another round where they predicted a dice roll in a chuck-a-luck cage. A cage that gave a result, then kept spinning, again, out of the relative view of the home audience. And all of these games were played twice in sequence before a winner was declared. I imagine it was less by design, and more because nobody thought of stretching the games out to make them more interesting. Blackjack was one hand, for instance. Or maybe they didn't have the money to build enough games to otherwise fill out the half hour, or maybe...

I don't hate Temptation because of the "Sale Of The Century" tag. I never saw a single episode of Sale, so I judged Temptation on it's own merits(which were very few). But keeping games out of view of the home audience?  That's a new low, how are you supposed to care about the game if you can't even see it?

From what it sounds like, the people behind this show better be glad that Google's barely heard of it. "Shopper's Casino" + "Jeff Maxwell" shows 7 hits.

Who aired it anyway? I can't even find that.

I heard somewhere that Fox aired it, I believe it was their first attempt at a game show.

I get it. You didn't like the show. You're beating that drum pretty hard, especially for someone I don't suspect has seen a lot of what else is out there in the game show genre. In another thread, you were defending Set for Life, which had players pulling colored cylinders out of secret compartments. You're entitled to your opinion, but I can pretty much guarantee, once you see more stuff, you'll find a show that ranks below it for you.

Yeah you're probably right about that! LOL I have a feeling i've only barely scratched the surface of awful game shows.  The show that replaced Temptation, "Trivial Pursuit: America Plays", looked so much worse that I didn't even bother to watch it.  Actually come to think of it, there was one show that I did hate more then Temptation, Dan Cortese's "My Dad Is Better Then Your Dad"(worst title ever BTW) Good god that was terrible!  "Amnesia" comes pretty close in terms of awfulness as well.
